Ofcom releases proposal document

The IMPDA today welcomes the publication of the long awaited Ofcom proposal document with regard to mis-selling and cashbacks.

Chris Caudle chairman of the IMPDA said "We have been pleased to see that Ofcom in their document have taken on board some of the dealer suggestions, and Ofcoms reference to introducing an approved independent retailer scheme by an approved industry body, is exactly what the IMPDA proposal document we presented at the Palace of Westminster in London suggested, but using an idependent body as we do not think the networks have the resources to handle it, and in any case it would need to be seen to be independent of both networks and dealers".

The IMPDA will consider these new proposals in detail and respond accordingly but, in the meantime we will work with Ofcom to assist in bring back the trust of the consumer to dealers. Meanwhile we are still waiting for a reply to our open invitation to the Mobile Broadband Group for a meeting with the networks. If these proposals in whatever final form they take are to work, then Mobile Network Operators must communicate with dealers, so we once again ask the networks to reply to our call for an urgent meeting as suggested by Richard Benyon MP for Newbury.

Message from the Chairman IMPDA

On behalf of the IMPDA and its team I would like to wish all UK dealers/distributors/networks a very Happy New Year 2009.

We wish all dealers good luck for 2009 and that their business continues to survive in 2009 after what has been a very difficult last quarter of 2008. Dealers this year need all the help they can get, and we hope that Mobile Network Operators will help to keep the independent dealer alive and well in 2009 and maybe offer special deals which will help to bring more business to the independent sector.

The future for dealers this year may be more difficult due to the economic climate, however dealers are tough and many will survive this difficult time. Despite the gloom, consumers are using their mobiles more and more, and although their may be a slight downturn, it;' not as bad as some sectors. That does not mean that dealers can be complacent. If anything diversification is the word this year, with more dealers taking on additional products to sell, and not just mobiles. Suppliers can also help dealers achieve additional sales, If suppliers would like to help UK dealers then please contact us to discuss.
