I have my darts ready and sharpened, The dartboard is set, and round circular pictures of all the networks are on the table just ready and waiting to be pinned up, but just who is going to have the honour of having the dart thown at them??  Well that depended’s on who is going to be late again for next months pricing books.

How often do retail and internet owners have to keep shouting this to the networks WE WANT PRICING 3 DAYS BEFORE DECEMBER!!!  With Christmas starting to loom large, retail and internet companies need to plan ahead, we need to prepare those special Christmas POS materials, we need to decorate the stores, we dealers are getting ready so when the doors open on December 1st we can greet the first customer and not have to worry about flaming pricing books or if we can sell new deals which we know is coming but have no details for.

Networks if you were trying to gain a contract to supply a big company yet your track record was always late delivery do you think you would get it NO!  You know very well that when you tell the distributors they have to put everything into their pricing books before its sent to dealers, so please for once in your life get it to them early so they can let dealers have pricing 3 days before Dec.  If not it just shows what a lack or organisation you have and the MD’s of those networks should take a serious look to correct it.

The iPhone sales as predicted were well short of that which O2 hyped up they would achieve but we would say come on O2 you are only now talking about letting your authorised dealers sell this but WHY!  You let CPW sell them why not say all other dealers can this week.  O2 missed a trick when they barred all other dealers, they could have achieved better sales, I just cannot see the logic of why they made that decision, it makes no business sense whatsoever.

So Roger Godsiff has summoned Ofcom and all 5 major networks to a meeting over primarily the cashback scandal, but where are the dealer representatives or even representatives from the distributors.  Again the main people that count are missing, and so cannot put their point of view.

The networks bleat that it’s between dealers and the consumer, yet where is our voice!  The IMPDA is asking dealers if they wish to have a letter sent with their views or to ask MP Roger Godsiff  if he would be prepared to meet with representatives to enable them to put their points of view and suggestions before any decisions are taken which will affect the industry.  If distributors and dealers would like to be put themselves forward to be part of the team to meet the MP’s then please let me know as soon as possible at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it please include your contact tel number.

This is an important opportunity to have the dealers/distributors input for once before any decision is taken, especially as further parliamentary debates will be taking place

Message from the Chairman IMPDA

6thumb_002.jpg

On behalf of the IMPDA and its team I would like to wish all UK dealers/distributors/networks a very Happy New Year 2009.

We wish all dealers good luck for 2009 and that their business continues to survive in 2009 after what has been a very difficult last quarter of 2008.  Dealers this year need all the help they can get, and we hope that Mobile Network Operators will help to keep the independent dealer alive and well in 2009 and maybe offer special deals which will help to bring more business to the independent sector.

The future for dealers this year may be more difficult due to the economic climate, however dealers are tough and many will survive this difficult time.  Despite the gloom, consumers are using their mobiles more and more, and although their may be a slight downturn, it;' not as bad as some sectors. That does not mean that dealers can be complacent. If anything diversification is the word this year, with more dealers taking on additional products to sell, and not just mobiles.  Suppliers can also help dealers achieve additional sales, If suppliers would like to help UK dealers then please contact us to discuss.

Happy New Year to you all

Chris Caudle

Chairman IMPDA
